Goals

  • To give children Hebrew skills and knowledge needed to participate in festivals, synagogue and Jewish life and in addition to the “How and What” to also understand the “why” behind them.

  • To support parents in providing their children with their heritage which includes, a strong Jewish identity, values and ethics, sense of their history and appreciation of Israel and the Torah.

  • To foster a feeling of belonging and community, by encouraging friendships and giving children a positive experience of the joy and fun of Judaism.

Curriculum 

Jewish Tradition and Values
Our program includes stories from the Torah and their relevant messages; Shabbat and Jewish Festivals; the Synagogue; Middot (‘Jewish Social skills’); the Jewish Home (including Kosher, Mezuzah and other works of the Scribe); Jewish History; Israel; Jewish Life Cycle; Prayer; Bar and Bat Mitzvah preparation including Jewish Philosophy and Spirituality, and the meaning of being a Jewish Man or Woman.
 

Hebrew Reading 
Utilizing individualized learning and a variety of methods we focus on children reading Hebrew fluently and accurately (using the Modern Hebrew Sefardit accent) and mastering particular high priority Hebrew passages.

Some of the sections learnt are the Friday Night Kiddush, how to participate in the Service, Songs for the Passover Seder, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Chanukah, the blessing after meals, the whole Shema, the Amidah, and prayers of thanks for the many things we enjoy.
